Anthropic's AI assistant: polished writing, long-document analysis, code and agents, with a free plan
Claude is the AI assistant built by Anthropic. You give it a brief, a contract, some notes or a piece of code, and it hands back a written text, a summary, an analysis or a program that runs. It is available on the web, as a desktop app and on mobile, but also in Chrome, in Microsoft 365 and on the command line with Claude Code. Several models coexist (Haiku, Sonnet, Opus and the newest ones), and the plan you pick decides which ones you can use and how much.
Freelancers who write, analyse or code every day: writers, consultants, developers, designers, trainers. If your day is made of business proposals, client documents to review, content to prepare or code to ship, Claude saves you time on the first draft and on the review. If what you mostly want is image generation or a marketplace of "GPTs", ChatGPT is more complete on that front. If you want a European AI, look at Mistral AI.

At FreelanceKit, we picked Claude for a simple reason: among the assistants we list, it is the one that writes best and holds up best when you hand it a large document to digest. For a freelancer, that means a clean business proposal in twenty minutes, and a 30-page contract summarised with its points of attention. The free plan lets you check that without taking out your credit card.
The weak point to know: usage limits. On a heavy day, the Free plan runs out fast, and even on Pro you can hit the "limit reached" message when you chain long conversations with heavy documents. Above that, the jump goes straight to Max at $100 per month, with no middle tier. And prices are in dollars before tax: your bill in euros depends on the exchange rate.

The Free plan costs nothing. The Pro plan is $17 per month with an annual subscription ($200 billed up front) or $20 per month billed monthly. Yes, the Free plan lets you chat with Claude on the web, the desktop app and mobile, search the web, create files, run code and keep memory across conversations. It is limited in usage volume: beyond that, you need to move to Pro.
More usage than the Free plan, the ability to hand off tasks and get back finished documents, slides, sheets and designs, Claude Code, Claude Science, Projects, more models, and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365.
Yes. The most common uses among freelancers: writing a business proposal or a detailed quote, reviewing a client contract, preparing a content plan, summarising a brief or a call, and coding a script or a website with Claude Code.
Both cover the same basic uses. Claude is often preferred for the quality of its writing and for long-document analysis, ChatGPT for its wider ecosystem (images, GPTs). The simplest approach is to try both free plans on your own tasks.
