OpenAI's AI assistant to write, summarize, search, generate images and code, with a free plan and paid plans from €8 per month
ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI assistant. You write to it (or talk to it) and it drafts, summarizes, translates, rephrases, analyzes a contract or a screenshot, searches the web, generates images and writes code. It runs on the GPT-6 and GPT-5.6 models, with reasoning models for complex tasks. It is available on web, iOS, Android, as a desktop app, and as add-ins in Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Google Sheets. It is the most widely used AI assistant in the world, and the one your clients already know.
For all freelancers who produce text, analyze documents or want a fast first draft: writers, consultants, community managers, developers, trainers. Its advantage is breadth: one tool for a follow-up email, a visual for a post, a spreadsheet analysis and an automation script. If you mostly work on long texts in French or large documents, compare with Claude. If you want a European AI, look at Mistral AI. And for sourced research, Perplexity remains a reference.
Card payment, monthly plans for Go, Plus and Business. Pricing checked on chatgpt.com in November 2026.
At FreelanceKit, we picked ChatGPT because it is the most complete assistant for an independent who does a bit of everything: writing, analyzing, illustrating, coding. The free plan lets you use it seriously for text, and the Go plan at €8 per month is the lowest entry ticket among the major assistants. Prices are shown in euros, which avoids currency surprises.
The weak point to know about: usage limits. On the free plan, you hit the ceiling quickly on file uploads, images and deep research, and the Go plan may show ads. For daily professional use with documents, Plus at €23 per month is the real entry point, and the jump to Pro at €103 is significant. Finally, by default your conversations may be used to train the models: turn off the option in the settings if you handle client data.

For writing, rewriting, brainstorming and searching the web, yes: text chats are unlimited. The limits concern file uploads, image creation, voice, deep research and memory. If you analyze client documents every day, Go or Plus quickly become necessary.
Plus gives access to GPT-6's advanced reasoning models, extended limits on messages and uploads, more precise image generation, extended deep research, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs, Codex for code, ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile, and early access to new features.
ChatGPT is broader: images, voice, custom GPTs, plugins, site generation. Claude is often preferred for long-form writing in French and for analyzing large documents. Many freelancers pay for one and use the other on the free plan.
By default, content may be used to improve the models on the Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans, with an opt-out in the settings. Remember to turn it on if you handle client documents.
