Who is it for?

It is for you if

  • You want a custom site, without coding, with fine control over design
  • You need a CMS for a blog or portfolio that you update
  • You are ready to invest time to master the tool
  • You want everything (design, CMS, hosting) in one place

Skip it if

  • You want a simple site in a few minutes: a Carrd page or a lighter tool is enough
  • You count on responsive support: many reviews judge it very weak
  • You want turnkey integrations with your emailing or CRM tools: reviews find them limited
  • You have a small budget and need e-commerce: Ecommerce plans are billed separately

Our detailed review

What is Webflow in 2026?

Webflow is a visual website builder that generates HTML and CSS code from what you draw. The promise: the design freedom of a custom-developed site, with a CMS for dynamic content, animations and hosting included, without writing code. For a freelancer, it is as much a tool for their own site as for delivering sites to clients.

It is also a demanding tool. Unlike a template-based builder, you handle notions close to web development (structure, classes, layout), and this is what makes it slower to pick up than a tool like Carrd.

Site plans and Workspace plans: do not confuse them

Webflow bills two distinct things. Site plans are for publishing and hosting a site: domain, CMS, pages. Workspace plans are for collaborating: seats, multiple sites, working with clients. If you build a single site for yourself, only Site plans matter. If you manage several client sites, also look at Workspace plans. Ecommerce plans also exist for online selling.

Pricing

Here is what Webflow's pricing page shows (checked in October 2026, in dollars). The Starter plan is free: publishing on a webflow.io subdomain, limited to 2 pages, to learn the tool. The paid Site plans, billed annually, are Basic at $15 per month (for simple sites, without CMS) and Premium at $25 per month ($39 monthly), which adds the CMS. Webflow simplified its plans in May 2026, so the old names (CMS, Business) that you will still see in articles no longer match the current grid.

For most freelancer sites with a blog or portfolio, the plan to pick is Premium. The free plan lets you build and learn without paying, but you need to move to a paid plan to use your own domain.

What users say

The rating is harsh. On Trustpilot, Webflow shows 1.5/5 ("Bad") from 239 reviews as of October 7, 2026, including 55 in the last twelve months. We did not find a usable Google listing. The criticism keeps coming back to a tool judged complex and unintuitive, poorly made online help with an AI chat, limited e-commerce, few integrations with emailing or CRM tools, prices judged high and above all almost absent support, including for customers who pay for a higher plan.

A few reviews defend the tool: capable, very successful sites, infrastructure (delivery, load, backups, security) taken care of. To read this rating with some distance: according to Trustpilot, Webflow has not recently invited its customers to leave a review and has not replied to negative reviews. The unhappy write more readily than the satisfied, which can pull the rating down, but the extent of the criticism about support deserves to be taken seriously.

What we like less

Three reservations. The learning curve first: without HTML and CSS knowledge, it takes time to get comfortable. Support next, heavily criticized: plan on getting by with the documentation and the community. Finally the real cost: beyond the Site plan, a Workspace plan to work with clients and Ecommerce plans to sell are added, and prices were revised in May 2026.

Features

Visual design without code

A visual editor that generates clean HTML and CSS, with much broader layout freedom than a template-based builder. Some HTML and CSS knowledge helps you make the most of it.

CMS for dynamic content

Content collections (blog, case studies, portfolio) that you or your client edit without touching the layout. The CMS starts with the Premium plan.

Animations and interactions

Scroll animations and custom interactions designed visually, without writing JavaScript.

Hosting included

Each paid site is hosted by Webflow, with a custom domain. The free Starter plan publishes on a webflow.io subdomain, limited to 2 pages.

Built-in SEO

Meta tags, sitemap, redirects and clean code for search engines, according to Webflow.

Site plans and Workspace plans

Site plans are for publishing a site. Workspace plans are for collaborating: seats, multiple sites, working with clients. They are two separate billings.

Our verdict

Webflow is one of the most powerful tools for building a custom site without coding, with CMS, animations and hosting. We recommend it to freelancers with real design standards and time to learn. But the Trustpilot rating is harsh (1.5/5 from 239 reviews, with no reply to negative reviews), mostly about support and complexity: for a simple site, lighter tools like Carrd or Framer are often enough. The free plan lets you test before paying.

Frequently asked questions about Webflow

Webflow shows 1.5/5 on Trustpilot from 239 reviews (as of October 7, 2026), including 55 in the last twelve months. The criticism concerns complexity, support and prices; a few users defend a very capable tool. According to Trustpilot, Webflow does not invite its customers to leave reviews and does not reply to negative reviews. We did not find a usable Google listing.

The Starter plan is free (webflow.io subdomain, 2 pages). The paid Site plans, billed annually: Basic at $15 per month (without CMS) and Premium at $25 per month, or $39 monthly (with CMS). Workspace plans and Ecommerce plans are billed separately (official site, October 2026).

A Site plan is for publishing and hosting a site (domain, CMS, pages). A Workspace plan is for collaborating: seats, multiple sites, working with clients. Both are billed separately.

No, but some HTML and CSS knowledge helps a lot. The learning curve is steeper than for tools like Carrd. Try the free plan before committing.

Carrd suits a simple page (see our Carrd review). Framer and Webflow aim at more elaborate sites: compare them in our comparison for building a website.
