Fiverr is an online marketplace where freelancers offer services to clients worldwide: design, development, copywriting, voice-over, video editing, marketing, and 700+ services according to Fiverr. The principle: you publish a packaged offer (a "gig") or reply with a custom offer, the buyer orders and pays on the platform, and Fiverr credits your earnings at the end of the order.
It is a very different model from a freelance marketplace like Malt: here, you sell standardised services at a set price, often in dollars and to an international audience. It comes with a high commission, strong competition and a strict rulebook. That explains the gap between satisfied sellers and the many negative reviews.
Here is what Fiverr's official payment terms state (September 2026 version). On the seller side, each completed order credits you with 80% of the amount, that is a 20% commission. On the buyer side, a 5.5% service fee is added, plus $3.50 for orders under $200. For hourly contracts, there is a $5 initiation fee and 5.5% of the hourly rate.
Two details that matter. Prices and earnings are in US dollars: if you withdraw in euros, a conversion applies. And the price you display already includes any taxes that apply to you: you remain responsible for your taxes and VAT.
Your earnings are only available for withdrawal after a 14-day clearing period following the end of the order, reduced to 7 days for Top Rated sellers. Withdrawal fees depend on the method: PayPal with no Fiverr fee ($0), Payoneer's Fiverr Revenue card ($1 within 2 days, $3 within 2 hours) or local bank transfer ($3). PayPal or Payoneer may add their own fees depending on your country. Fiverr may also temporarily suspend withdrawals if it suspects fraud or multiple accounts.
This is the point to read before ordering or selling. Disagreements first go through the Resolution Center, then support. A completed order can be cancelled up to 14 days after its end in case of a breach or rule violation (delivery without a file, payment requested outside the platform, misuse of the delivery system...), but not for quality if the service matches the listing. For hourly contracts, Fiverr even specifies that it does not guarantee the quality of the work and that support does not accept disputes on that point. Another point: funds from a cancelled order return to your Fiverr balance, not automatically to your card.
The rule protects the seller whose work matches the listing. For a buyer, it means reading the listing carefully and reporting a problem to the seller before approving.
On Trustpilot, Fiverr shows 3.2/5 ("Average") over 15,729 reviews as of 7 October 2026, including 1,901 over the last twelve months. The volume is huge and the rating is low: as a benchmark, Trustpilot shows 4.2/5 for Upwork. Long-time sellers, notably in voice-over, praise the international visibility, order management and the ability to grow a client base.
The negative reviews, very numerous, come back to the same topics: accounts blocked for "spam" after a few messages sent (including on the buyer side), slow support judged unhelpful, disputes perceived as unfavourable to clients, fraudulent profiles and contested bank verifications. To read this rating with perspective: according to Trustpilot, Fiverr regularly invites its customers to leave a review, but only replies to 12% of its negative reviews.
Three reservations. The commission first: 20% on each order, which weighs on the margin, especially on low prices. Then the risk of being blocked: several reviews describe accounts suspended without a clear explanation, with support hard to reach, which is a real risk for a seller who relies on the platform. Finally dependence: prices and earnings in dollars, the 14-day delay and the dispute rules make Fiverr a complementary channel rather than a sole source of income.

Withdrawing earnings
PayPal with no Fiverr fee ($0), Payoneer's Fiverr Revenue card ($1 within 2 days, $3 within 2 hours) or local bank transfer ($3). The payment provider may add its own fees.

We recommend it as a complementary channel rather than a sole source of income: Trustpilot reviews (3.2/5) point to blocked accounts and slow support, and the dispute rules do not protect on quality when the service matches the listing. Read the payment terms before diving in.
