Our detailed review

What is Orus in 2026?

Orus is an online professional insurer for independent workers and small businesses registered in France, which covers more than 1,500 activities and claims more than 60,000 policyholders. Its promise comes down to three points: a certificate in under 3 minutes, professional liability with no commitment, and a dedicated advisor reachable by phone, SMS, email or WhatsApp.

A useful note on vocabulary: Orus presents itself as a neo-insurer, but its website specifies that contracts are underwritten by Hiscox, AIG and Munich Re (the world's largest reinsurer), and Trustpilot lists it among insurance brokers. So you subscribe with Orus, and your contract is carried by these partner insurers.

Orus insures activities registered in France. If you are a foreign freelancer set up in France (micro-entrepreneur, sole trader or company), it works for you like for any French freelancer. The prices and guarantees below are those of the French offer.

Professional liability: price and guarantees

Professional liability starts at €13 a month (checked on orus.eu in October 2026), that is entry prices around €156 a year for low-risk activities. Orus states that an independent worker spends on average €250 to €300 a year. The price depends on five criteria: the exact activity, the legal form, revenue, the guarantees included and the coverage limits chosen. The entry price is therefore a floor, not a guaranteed price.

On the guarantee side, professional liability covers in particular contractual breaches (failure to meet a brief, late delivery), errors or negligence, loss of property or data entrusted by a client, intellectual property, fee refunds and damage to your reputation. The deductible ranges from €0 to €1,500 depending on the activity and revenue. Options are added à la carte: operating liability, equipment cover, small office, extension to the United States and Canada.

Legal protection is included in the professional liability policy, at no extra cost: unlimited legal advice by phone (except debt collection, so not for an unpaid invoice) and lawyer fees covered up to €50,000 in case of a dispute. That is a real plus when many offers sell it as an option.

The other strength is the absence of commitment: you can cancel at any time, without notice, except for vehicle delivery and passenger transport activities (ride-hailing, taxi). And when you subscribe, Orus offers to handle the cancellation of your previous contract. A common-sense tip: wait for your acceptance before cancelling the old contract, so you are never left without cover.

The other insurance products

Orus does more than professional liability. The website shows professional multi-risk and office insurance from €25 a month, ten-year construction liability from €69 a month (it automatically includes professional liability), TNS health insurance from €30 a month and TNS income protection from €25 a month (TNS: self-employed workers, a French status). If health and income protection are your main need, compare with Wemind, a specialist on the subject.

What users say

On Trustpilot, Orus shows 4.9/5 over 4,604 reviews as of 7 October 2026, including 2,117 over the last twelve months: a very high and very recent volume. Customers often name an advisor by first name and praise the clarity of the quote, the speed of subscription and the availability. On Google, Orus's listing shows 4.7/5 over 819 reviews on the same date.

To read these ratings with perspective: according to Trustpilot, Orus regularly invites its customers to leave a review, and many reviews carry the "invited" label. The company replies to 92% of its negative reviews, usually after more than a month. Criticisms exist but remain rare: one customer reports 50 documents requested and then a refusal to insure because of a month without insurance, another a debit after cancelling their contract, and a 4-star review regrets the lack of a commercial gesture for someone holding several professional liability policies.

What we like less

Three reservations. The entry price first: the €13 a month applies to low-risk activities, and both the deductible and the final price vary with your line of work and your revenue. Ask for your quote before comparing with Simplis, which starts at €9.99 a month. Then profile acceptance: a few reviews mention numerous document requests and refusals for atypical insurance histories, hence the point of cancelling your current contract only after acceptance. Finally support: advisors are reachable Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm, not at the weekend.

Our verdict

Orus is one of the simplest professional liability policies to subscribe to: certificate in 3 minutes, no commitment, legal protection included and a reachable advisor, with excellent reviews over a very large volume. We recommend it to freelancers in France who want cover fast and without paperwork. The €13 entry price is for low-risk activities: ask for your quote before cancelling your current contract.
